Tyres - Tyre Pressure

~2min read

Checking the correct tyre pressure is essential for the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016). This section explains the importance of tyre pressure for fuel consumption, handling and tyre life. The information is supplemented by notes on the recommended pressures for different loads and on the significance of ECO pressure. Tips on measuring cold tyres help ensure correct values.

Tyre pressure can vary and is measured in bar.

Checking tyre pressure

The tyre pressure must be checked once a month.

This also applies to the vehicle's spare wheel.

  • Tyre pressure for the recommended tyre size of the vehicle.
  • ECO pressure¹.
  • Pressure of the temporary spare tyre.

The tyre pressure must be checked when the tyres are cold.

Cold tyres means that the tyre temperature matches the outside temperature. After a few kilometres of driving, the tyres warm up and the pressure rises.

Tyres with too low a pressure increase fuel consumption, reduce tyre life and worsen the handling of the vehicle. Driving with too low a tyre pressure can cause the tyres to overheat and be damaged.

Tyre pressure affects ride comfort, road noise and handling.

CAUTION

Tyre pressure decreases over time, which is a natural phenomenon. Tyre pressure also fluctuates with the ambient temperature.

Tyre pressure label

Reifendruckschild

The tyre pressure label on the inside of the driver's door pillar (between the front and rear door) gives the tyre pressure that applies for different loads and speed conditions. The tyre pressure is also given in the tyre pressure table, see Tyres - Approved Tyre Pressure.

Economical driving, ECO pressure

To keep fuel consumption as low as possible at speeds below 160 km/h, the ECO pressure is recommended (applies to both full and light loads), see Tyres - Approved Tyre Pressure.

1 ECO pressure results in more economical fuel consumption.

The correct tyre pressure on the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) ensures optimum handling, low wear and low fuel consumption. The pressure should be checked monthly when the tyres are cold, including the spare wheel.

The tyre pressure label in the door area gives the values for different load and speed conditions. For particularly economical driving, Volvo recommends ECO pressure.

FAQ

Why does tyre pressure drop over time?
This is a natural process, which is additionally influenced by temperature changes.

When is the best time to check tyre pressure?
When the tyres are cold – i.e. after at least three hours of standing or before starting a journey.
