| Malfunction | Cause | Remedy |
| A. Temperature gauge is at the stop on the right, warning lamp flashing | 1. 4-cylinder engine only: V-ribbed belt is too loose or broken 2. Coolant level too low 3. Temperature gauge wire shorted to ground 4. Thermostat does not allow cold water from the radiator to flow in (radiator is cold) 5. Cooling fan does not switch on 6. Pressure relief valve in the radiator cap is faulty 7. Gauge voltage stabilizer is faulty 8. Radiator fins clogged |
Check belt tension or replace the belt Top up Disconnect the temperature sender wire. The gauge needle should return to zero or the red warning lamp should go out. If not, a short to ground has occurred; check the wiring routing Remove the thermostat and continue driving without it, or call a tow truck Have the cap checked in a workshop and replace if necessary Replace Clean the radiator |
| B. Temperature gauge responds very slowly, weak heat output | Thermostat does not close fully; heated coolant passes through the radiator too early | Clean the thermostat; replace if necessary |
| Temperature gauge remains in the lower range, good heat output | 1. See A72 Temperature gauge sender is faulty | Replace |
