Draining the Coolant
PROCEDURE
Let the engine cool down, otherwise there is a high risk of burns!
Open the threaded cap of the expansion tank.
Remove the engine compartment undershield (refer to Body Components).
Place a wide container under the engine to collect the coolant.
Open the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator or disconnect the lower radiator hose.
Additionally:
Models with 4-cylinder engine: on the left side in the direction of travel, remove the thick hose to the radiator and the thinner hose to the heater heat exchanger on the thermostat housing, and drain all the fluid from them.
5-cylinder engine models: at the rear of the cylinder block, disconnect the coolant hose leading to the heater.
Next, disconnect the hose at the lower coolant pipe.
6-cylinder engine models: drain the coolant through the drain plug at the bottom of the cylinder block.
Note: Antifreeze is poisonous, so it must not be poured down the drain. Instead, collect it in a suitable container and dispose of it as hazardous waste.
