Filling the Cooling System
Because some coolant always remains in the engine, it may not be possible to fill the full quantity listed in the table at the beginning of this section.
PROCEDURE
Before filling, open the threaded bleed plug in the heater hose.
6-cylinder engine only: unscrew the threaded plug on the coolant pipe at the front of the engine.
First add antifreeze, then distilled water if possible, until the level reaches the upper edge of the expansion tank.
Pour in coolant until it flows out of the opening. Then top up completely.
4-cylinder engine only: raise the upper water hose to the radiator slightly while coolant is being filled.
Install the threaded cap on the expansion tank.
Start the engine and let it run until the electric cooling fan switches on.
Switch off the engine and top up the coolant. The level should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the expansion tank; with the engine at operating temperature, it may be slightly above the MAX mark.
