Brake Fluid Replacement

~2min read

EVERY 2 YEARS, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE

Special tool required: 10 mm open-end wrench for loosening the brake bleeder valve.

Air is drawn into the system through the pores of the brake hoses and through the reservoir vent. As a result, the boiling point of the brake fluid decreases during operation. Under heavy braking, this can cause vapor to form in the brake lines, which significantly reduces braking effectiveness.

Brake fluid must be replaced every two years. It is recommended to do this in the spring.

When handling brake fluid, observe safety precautions. Refer to the Brake Fluid section.

PROCEDURE

1. Draw brake fluid from the reservoir down to the 10 mm level.

* Do not drain the reservoir completely, to prevent air from entering the system.

2. Fill the reservoir with new brake fluid up to the Max mark.
3. Attach a clean hose to the bleeder valve of the right rear caliper and place a container under it.

4. Попросите ассистента несколько раз нажать на педаль тормоза так, чтобы

4. Have an assistant press the brake pedal several times until resistance is felt. Holding the pedal depressed, use the open-end wrench (1) to loosen the bleeder valve and drain the fluid through the clear hose. Close the valve when the pedal reaches the floor. Release the pedal. Refer to the accompanying illustration. Repeat this process as many times (approximately 10 times) as necessary until new fluid flows from the system. New fluid can be identified by its lighter color.
5. Close the valve. Fill the reservoir with new brake fluid.
6. Bleed the other calipers in the same way. The sequence is as follows:
1 - right rear;
2 - left rear;
3 - right front;
4 - left front.

* The drained brake fluid must be clean and free of air bubbles.

7. Replace the brake fluid in the clutch hydraulic system in the same way.
8. Bleed air from the clutch. Refer to the Clutch Removal, Installation and Inspection section.
9. Take used brake fluid to a designated collection point.

* Brake fluid must never come into contact with drinking water containers. Keep children away from brake fluid. Poisoning hazard!
