Refrigerant Handling Instructions
PROCEDURE
1. Liquid R-134a refrigerant is highly volatile. Contact with skin may cause frostbite. Always wear protective gloves when handling refrigerant.
2. As standard protection when handling refrigerant, wear eye protection goggles. If refrigerant gets on clothing or protective equipment, immediately flush the affected area with plenty of water.
3. Liquid R-134a refrigerant is stored in containers (cylinders). Store the refrigerant cylinder at a temperature not exceeding 52 °C.
4. Use an electronic leak detector to check the air conditioning system for leaks. Note that R-134a refrigerant decomposes when exposed to flame, releasing a very toxic gas.
5. Use only the recommended lubricant for air conditioning components, otherwise the system may be damaged.
6. PAG lubricant absorbs moisture from the atmosphere rapidly, so observe the following precautions:
– when disconnecting air conditioning components, immediately cap the connections to prevent moisture from entering the system;
– when installing new air conditioning components, remove the protective caps immediately before installation;
– connect the air conditioning hoses and lines as quickly as possible to minimize moisture entering the system;
– use air conditioning lubricant only from a sealed container.

7. If the air conditioning system is accidentally discharged, ventilate the work area before servicing the system.
