Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure
Tire pressure (including the spare tire) should be checked when the tires are cold. "Cold tires" means the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours or has been driven less than one mile (1.6 km).
Heated tires usually exceed the recommended cold tire pressure by 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa). Do not release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure, or the tires will be under-inflated. For recommended inflation pressures, see "Tires and Wheels" in Chapter 2.
WARNING
The recommended pressure must be maintained for better ride, vehicle handling, and minimum tire wear.
Over- or under-inflation may shorten tire life, adversely affect vehicle handling, and cause sudden tire failure, which may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident.
Severe under-inflation may cause excessive heat build-up, resulting in tire bulges, tread separation, and other tire failures, which may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident. This risk is much higher on hot days and during prolonged high-speed driving.
CAUTION
- Under-inflation causes excessive wear, poor handling, and reduced fuel economy. Wheel deformation is also possible. Keep your tire pressure at the proper level. If a tire often needs air, have it checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- Over-inflation causes a harsh ride, excessive wear in the center of the tire tread, and a greater likelihood of damage from road hazards.
