Fuel Pressure Inspection (Low-Pressure System)

Fuel Pressure Inspection (Low-Pressure System)

  1. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line.

(Refer to Fuel System - Inspection - "Release Residual Pressure in the Fuel Line".)

  2. Install the Special Service Tool (SST).

    1. Disconnect the fuel feed hose from the injection pipe.

    2. Install the special service tool to measure fuel pressure between the fuel supply tube and the fuel feed tube. (Refer to the illustration below.)

      • For 09353-02100

      • For 0K353-D4100

  3. Check for fuel leaks from the connections on the low pressure fuel tube, the low pressure inlet of the high pressure fuel pump, and the SST components with the ignition switch ON.

  4. Measure the fuel pressure.

    1. Start the engine and measure fuel pressure at idle.

Fuel pressure: More than 290 kPa (more than 2.9 bar, more than 2.95 kgf/cm², more than 42.06 psi)

      Pressure
      Cause Related Part
Too low Clogged fuel filter Fuel filter

Too high Fuel pressure regulator stuck Fuel Pressure Regulator
    2. Stop the engine, and then check the fuel pressure gauge for pressure change.

Specification: The fuel pressure gauge reading should be maintained for approximately 5 minutes after the engine is stopped.

    3. Turn the ignition off.

  5. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line.

(Refer to Fuel System – Repair Procedures – "Release Residual Pressure in the Fuel Line".)

  6. Complete the test.

    1. Remove the Special Service Tool (SST) from the low pressure fuel feed hose and the low pressure inlet of the high pressure fuel pump.

    2. Connect the low-pressure fuel feed tube and the hose to the low-pressure inlet of the high-pressure fuel pump.

Release Residual Fuel Line Pressure

Release Fuel Line Residual Pressure

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the fuel pump relay (A).

  3. Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  4. Run the engine for approximately 1 minute to reduce the pressure in the low pressure line.

  5. Turn the engine off.

  6. Disconnect the quick-connect coupling of the low pressure fuel line from the high pressure fuel pump. Use a rag to cover the opening and collect spillage when removing the fuel line.

  7. Start the engine and let it run at idle until it stops. At this point, the pressure should be below 30 psi.

  8. Continue with the service or repair. Use shop towels to cover the opening and catch any spilled fuel when opening the high-pressure system.

  9. Reinstall/reconnect all components in the reverse order of removal. Start the engine and check that it operates correctly, and make sure there are no fuel leaks.

  10. After completion, erase the DTCs using the KDS scan tool. (The procedure described above will set DTCs.)
