Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) is a Hall sensor and detects the camshaft position using a Hall element. It works in conjunction with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) and determines the piston position of each cylinder, which the CKPS system cannot detect. The CMPS is installed on the cylinder head cover and uses a target wheel installed on the camshaft. As the target wheel passes the Hall sensor, the magnetic field in the sensor changes. The sensor then switches the signal, which creates a square wave.
