Injector Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The GDI injector is similar to a standard injector, but it sprays fuel directly into the combustion chamber at a higher pressure and has a swirl disc to create fuel swirl as it exits the injector. This promotes fuel atomization. The ECM controls both circuits: the power circuit (high side) supplies voltage to the injectors and the ground circuit (low side) supplies power to the injectors. In addition, two injectors are supplied from the same driver set. Since the ignition coils are paired with cylinders (1-4 and 2-3), the injectors are also paired.
