Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the ECM connector (A).
  3. Remove the battery. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery")
  4. Remove the mounting bolts and nuts, then remove the ECM bracket assembly (A).

Installation

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. ECM mounting screw: 0.9 ~ 0.9 N·m ECM bracket mounting bolt: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m ECM bracket mounting nut: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

ECM Circuit Inspection Procedure

  1. ECM GROUND CIRCUIT INSPECTION: Measure the resistance between the ECM ground point and chassis ground, using the rear of the ECM harness connector to check at the ECM side. If a problem is found, repair it.

    Specification: Below 1 Ω

  2. ECM CONNECTOR INSPECTION: Disconnect the ECM connector and visually inspect the ground terminals on the ECM side and the harness side for bent pins or poor contact pressure. If a problem is found, repair it.
  3. If no problem is found in steps 1 and 2, the ECM may be faulty. Therefore, before replacing the ECM with a new one, make sure there are no DTCs, then inspect the vehicle again. If DTCs were detected, troubleshoot them first before replacing the ECM.
  4. RECHECK ORIGINAL ECM: Install the original ECM (may be faulty) into a known good vehicle and check the vehicle. If the problem recurs, replace the original ECM with a new one. If the problem does not occur, the problem is intermittent (refer to "Intermittent Problem Check Procedure" in the "Basic Troubleshooting Procedure" section).
