Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) detects the position of the crankshaft and is one of the most important sensors in the engine control system. If there is no CKPS signal, the engine may stall due to the absence of the CKPS signal. This sensor is installed on the ladder frame and generates an alternating current by the magnetic flux field created by the sensor and the target wheel as the engine rotates. The target wheel consists of 58 slots and 2 missing slots at 360 CA (crank angle). In the case of ISG, the ISG function receives accurate crankshaft position information in all operating modes. The CKPS in the ISG function ensures a short engine restart time and efficient combustion. [ISG]

Operation

[ISG] Two separate differential channels provide speed and direction information, respectively. The phase separation of the two channels provides information on the direction of rotation.
