Description and Operation

Description

The Ambient Air Temperature Sensor (ATS), installed on the front module, detects the ambient air temperature. The ECM receives both the intake air temperature and the ambient air temperature values simultaneously to accurately control the intake air volume supplied through the turbocharger. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases, and vice versa. This sensor is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) type, whose resistance is inversely proportional to temperature.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the ATS connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the ATS [B1/S1].
  4. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the front bumper cover. (Refer to Body - "Front Bumper Assembly")
  3. Disconnect the ambient air temperature sensor connector (A).
  4. Remove the ambient air temperature sensor (B).

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
