Description and Operation

Description

The rail pressure sensor (RPS) is installed on the fuel rail and measures the instantaneous fuel pressure in the delivery pipe. A sensing element (semiconductor element) built into the sensor converts the pressure into a voltage signal, which the ECM uses to precisely control the injection quantity and timing. In addition, if the actual pressure calculated from the sensor output signal differs from the target rail pressure, the rail pressure is adjusted by the rail pressure control valve.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Connect the KDS to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Measure the RPS output voltage at idle and at various engine speeds.
    Pressure Output Voltage (V) [Vref=5V]
    bar [MPa (kgf/cm², psi)]
    0 0 (0, 0) 0,5
    175 14 (142, 2031) 2,5
    350 28 (286, 4061) 4,5

Removal

  1. Relieve the residual fuel pressure in the fuel line. (Refer to Fuel System – "Relieve Residual Fuel Pressure in Fuel Line")
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. Remove the intake manifold. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Intake Manifold")
  4. Remove the delivery pipe and injector assembly. (Refer to Fuel System - "Delivery Pipe")
  5. Disconnect the rail pressure sensor connector (A), then remove the sensor (B) from the delivery pipe.

    Rail Pressure Sensor: 30.0–35 N·m

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
