Description and Operation

Description

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) is used to detect the camshaft position using a Hall element, also called a Hall sensor. The CMPS, installed on the cylinder head cover, uses a target wheel installed on the camshaft to determine the position of each piston, which cannot be detected by the CKPS. It is equipped with a Hall effect IC, whose output voltage changes when a magnetic field acts on the IC with current flowing. Therefore, sequential fuel injection for each cylinder is possible with the CKPS signal.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Check the CMPS and CKPS signal waveforms using the KDS.

    Specification: Refer to the Waveform.

Removal

[Bank 1 / Intake]

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the air cleaner. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")
  3. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector (A).
  4. Remove the sensor (B) by loosening the mounting bolt. Camshaft Position Sensor Mounting Bolt: 9.8–11.8 N·m

[Bank 1/Exhaust]
