Rear Radar Sensors
Your vehicle is equipped with rear radar sensors. The rear radar sensors are also used by the following systems:
- Blind Spot Monitoring system (BSM)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert system (RCTA)
The rear radar sensors operate by detecting radio waves emitted by these sensors that are reflected from an approaching vehicle behind or from an obstacle.

The rear radar sensors are installed inside the rear bumper, one on the right and one on the left side.
For the rear radar sensors to operate properly, the surface of the rear bumper near the rear radar sensors must always be kept clean. Do not attach any objects, such as stickers, to it.
See the section "Exterior Care" on page 6-68.
CAUTION
If the rear bumper is struck hard, the system may stop operating properly.
In that case, turn off the system immediately and have the vehicle inspected by a Mazda Authorized Dealer.
CAUTION
The object detection capability of the rear radar sensors has certain limitations. In the cases listed below, this capability may be reduced and the system may not operate properly.
The rear bumper near the rear radar sensors is deformed.
Snow, ice, or mud is on the surface of the rear bumper near the rear radar sensors.
In adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog and snow.
Under the following circumstances, the rear radar sensors may not be able to detect objects, or detection may be impaired.
Stationary objects on or beside the road, such as small two-wheeled vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, animals, and shopping carts.
Vehicles with shapes that do not reflect radar waves well, such as empty trailers, low vehicles, and sports cars.
On new vehicles, the rear radar sensors are adjusted for each vehicle in the loaded condition so that they correctly detect approaching vehicles. If the rear radar sensors are disturbed for any reason, have the vehicle inspected by a Mazda Authorized Dealer.
For repair or replacement of the rear radar sensors, or for repair, painting, and replacement of the bumper, consult a Mazda Authorized Dealer.
Turn off the system when towing a trailer or when a bicycle carrier or other accessory is installed on the rear of the vehicle. Otherwise, the radio waves emitted from the radar sensor will be blocked, causing the system to malfunction.
Radar sensors are regulated by the laws of the country in which the vehicle is used. When driving the vehicle abroad, permission to use them may be required from the authorities of the country you are entering.
