Brake pedal

~2min read

Your vehicle is equipped with power brakes with automatically adjusted effectiveness.

If the power assist system fails, you can stop the vehicle by applying greater pedal force than normal. However, the braking distance will be longer than usual.

WARNING

Do not continue driving if the engine stalls or is switched off. Find a safe place to stop: Driving with the engine off is dangerous. Braking will require greater effort, and brake assist may be lost if you brake repeatedly with pumping motions.

This will lengthen the braking distance, which may cause an accident.

Shift to a lower gear when descending a hill: Pressing the brake pedal for a long time, or braking continuously over a long distance is dangerous. It overheats the brakes, resulting in a longer braking distance or serious brake failure. This may cause loss of control of the vehicle and a serious accident.

Avoid pressing the brake pedal for long periods.

To dry wet brakes, drive very slowly, release the accelerator and lightly press the brake pedal until the system works normally again: Driving with wet brakes is dangerous. A longer braking distance or the vehicle pulling to one side during braking may cause a serious accident. Lightly pressing the brake pedal will confirm whether the brakes are wet.

CAUTION

Do not drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal or brake pedal, or holding the clutch pedal partially depressed unnecessarily. This may cause:

  • Clutch and brake system components to wear out faster.
  • The brakes to overheat, which may adversely affect braking effectiveness.

Always operate the brake pedal with your right foot. Using your left foot on the brake, which you are not accustomed to, may slow your reaction time in an emergency and make the brake system ineffective.

Wear shoes suitable for driving to avoid a situation where your shoe presses the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time.
