Check the pressure of all tires, including the spare tire (if equipped), once a month when cold, then inflate them to the pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or the tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or the tire inflation pressure label, you should determine the correct inflation pressure for those tires.) As an additional safety measure, your vehicle is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system that illuminates a low tire pressure warning light when one or more tires are significantly under-inflated.

For this reason, if the low tire pressure warning light comes on, you should stop the vehicle and check your tires as soon as possible, then inflate them to the correct pressure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat, which can lead to tire failure. In addition, under-inflated tires increase fuel consumption, reduce the service life of the tread and can compromise the handling and braking ability of the vehicle.

Please note that the tire pressure monitoring system does not replace proper tire maintenance, and it is always the driver's responsibility to keep the tires properly inflated, even if under-inflation has not caused the low tire pressure warning light of the tire pressure monitoring system to come on.

Your vehicle is also equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The tire pressure monitoring system malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure warning light. When the system detects a malfunction, the light will flash for approximately one minute and then remain on. This sequence will continue during future vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure. Tire pressure monitoring system malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the tire pressure monitoring system from operating properly. Always check the tire pressure monitoring system malfunction indicator after replacing one or more tires or wheels to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the tire pressure monitoring system to continue to operate correctly.

Additional information:

  • The tire pressure monitoring system does not monitor the pressure of the spare tire.
  • The tire pressure monitoring system is only active when the vehicle is driven at speeds above 25 km/h. In addition, this system may not detect a sudden drop in tire pressure (for example, a tire blowout while driving).
  • Even after adjusting the inflation pressure of all four tires, the low tire pressure warning light does not turn off automatically. Once the pressure of all four tires has been adjusted to the recommended inflation pressure, you must drive at speeds above 25 km/h to activate the tire pressure monitoring system and turn off the low tire pressure warning light. Use a tire pressure gauge to check the tire pressure.
  • The "Low tire pressure - add air" message is displayed on the multi-information display when the low tire pressure warning light comes on and low tire pressure is detected. The "Low tire pressure - add air" message disappears when the low tire pressure warning light turns off.
  • The "Check tire pressure" warning message is displayed each time the ignition switch is in the ON position as long as the low tire pressure warning light remains on.
  • The "Low tire pressure - add air" warning message is not displayed if the low tire pressure warning light comes on to indicate a malfunction of the tire pressure monitoring system.
  • Tire pressure increases and decreases with the heat generated by vehicle operating conditions and the outside temperature. Low outside temperatures can cool the air inside the tire, which can cause the tire inflation pressure to decrease.
This may cause the low tire pressure warning light to come on. If the light comes on, check the pressure of all tires.
  • The tire and loading information label (also called the vehicle label or tire inflation pressure label) is located on the driver's door opening.
  • You can also check the pressure of all tires (except the spare tire) on the multi-information display (depending on vehicle equipment). The tire pressure display order corresponds to the actual tire position order.
  • For more information, refer to the "Low Tire Pressure Warning Light" topic in the "Instruments and Controls" chapter, the "Tire Pressure Monitoring System" topic in the "Starting and Operating" section, and the "Tire Pressure" topic in the "Maintenance and Care" section.

    WARNING

    • Radio waves may interfere with the operation of electrical medical devices. Persons who use a pacemaker should consult the manufacturer of the electrical medical device regarding possible interference before use.
    • If the low tire pressure warning light comes on while driving, avoid sudden steering or braking, slow down, move to a safe location and stop the vehicle as soon as possible. Driving with an underinflated tire can cause permanent damage to the tire and increases the likelihood of tire failure. Your vehicle could suffer major damage and you could have an accident resulting in serious injury.
Check the pressure of all tires. Adjust the pressure COLD, as specified on the tire and loading information label, to turn OFF the low tire pressure warning light. If you have a flat tire, install the spare tire as soon as possible. (For more information on replacing a tire, refer to the "Flat Tire" section of the "In an Emergency" chapter.)
  • When a spare tire is installed or when a tire is replaced, the tire pressure is not indicated, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System does not function, and the low tire pressure warning light flashes for about one minute. The warning light stays on after one minute. Contact your NISSAN dealer as soon as possible to replace the tires or reset the system.
  • Using replacement tires other than those specified by NISSAN may affect the operation of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
  • Do not inject any tire sealant, liquid or aerosol, into the tires. The operation of the tire pressure sensors could be compromised.
  • WARNING

Do not install metallized film or other metal parts (antenna, etc.) on the windows. This can interfere with reception of the tire pressure sensor signals, and the tire pressure monitoring system will not operate properly.

Certain devices and transmitters may temporarily interfere with the operation of the tire pressure monitoring system and cause the low tire pressure warning light to come on.

    Examples:

    • Electrical equipment or devices located near the vehicle that use radio frequencies close to those of the system.
    • A transmitter using radio frequencies close to those of the system located inside or near the vehicle.
    • A computer (or other similar equipment) or a DC-to-AC converter used inside or near the vehicle.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Easy Inflation Alert Feature

When you inflate an underinflated tire, the tire pressure monitoring system with Easy Inflation Alert feature provides visual and audible signals outside the vehicle to help you inflate the tires to the recommended COLD pressure.

    Vehicle setup:

    1. Park the vehicle in a safe, level location.
    2. Apply the parking brake and place the shift lever in P (Park).
    3. Place the ignition switch in the ON position. Do not start the engine.

    Operation:

    1. Inflate the tire.
    2. After a few seconds, the hazard lights begin to flash.
    3. When the specified pressure is reached, the horn sounds once and the hazard lights stop flashing.
    4. Perform the above steps for each tire.
    • If the tire is overinflated by approximately 30 kPa (4 psi), the horn sounds and the hazard lights flash three times. To correct the pressure, briefly press the valve stem core of the tire to release pressure. When the pressure reaches the specified pressure, the horn sounds once.
    • If the hazard lights do not flash within approximately 15 seconds after inflation begins, the Easy Inflation Alert feature is not functioning.
    • The tire pressure monitoring system does not activate the Easy Inflation Alert feature under the following conditions:
    • In the event of interference from an external device or transmitter.
    • The air pressure of the inflator is not sufficient to inflate the tire.
    • A malfunction has occurred in the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
    • The horn or hazard lights are malfunctioning.
    • The tire pressure sensor ID code is not registered in the system.
    • The tire pressure sensor battery is low.
    • If the Easy Fill Tire Alert function does not operate due to interference with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System, drive the vehicle forward or backward about 1 m (3 ft) and try again.

If the Easy Fill Tire Alert function still does not operate, use a tire pressure gauge.
