General information

~1min read

The adoption of electronic injection on diesel engines has optimised engine operation and thereby reduced the level of polluting exhaust emissions.

The system consists of an ECU. It receives information from:

  • the coolant temperature sensor,
  • the intake air temperature sensor,
  • the engine speed sensor,
  • the vehicle speed sensor,
  • the load potentiometer,
  • the start-of-injection sensor; this sensor is part of the No. 3 cylinder injector (instrumented injector).

It controls:

  • the injection pump:
  • the altitude corrector (F8Q 630) via a relay,
  • the advance solenoid valve.
  • the cold start system (glow plugs and pre/post-heating control unit),
  • the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system,
  • the injection fault warning lamp,
  • the preheating warning lamp,
  • the fast idle vacuum solenoid valve,
  • the relay controlling the power steering electric pump (CA vehicles); the power steering pump is powered as soon as engine speed exceeds 650 rpm.

It performs self-diagnosis, which can be read with the XR25 diagnostic tool.

SPECIFIC FEATURES

The following components can be changed on the injection pump:

  • the load potentiometer,
  • the advance solenoid valve,
  • the altitude corrector,
  • the electric stop.
