Immobiliser function

~1min read

These vehicles are fitted with an anti-theft system controlled by a RENAULT card recognition system with a random evolving code, which requires a specific procedure when replacing the ECU.

REPLACEMENT

  • For removal and refitting, see Chapter Diesel Injection, Diesel Injection ECU, page 13B-103.
  • For the anti-theft functions, see Chapter Anti-theft.
  • Injection ECUs are supplied uncoded, but all of them can learn a code.
  • When replacing the ECU, the vehicle code must be taught to the new ECU, then the anti-theft function must be checked to confirm it is working correctly.
  • Switch the ignition on for a few seconds without starting the engine.
  • Switch off the ignition.
Note: the anti-theft function becomes active after approximately 10 seconds (the red anti-theft warning light flashes on the instrument panel). WARNING
  • The injection ECU keeps the anti-theft code for life.
  • The system has no fault-finding code.
  • Do not carry out tests with ECUs borrowed from the parts store or from another vehicle; they must be returned afterwards.
  • These ECUs can no longer be coded.
