Injection warning light

K9K

Vehicles fitted with the DELPHI DDCR high-pressure diesel system display fault symbols and written warning messages, depending on the severity of the faults detected, in order to inform the customer and guide diagnosis.

The injection ECU controls the warning lights and the display of warning messages on the instrument panel. The fault warning lights come on:

  • during the pre-heating phase,
  • when an injection fault occurs,
  • when the engine overheats.

Warning information is sent to the instrument panel via the multiplexed network.

WARNING LIGHT OPERATION.

During the starting phase (press the "Start" button), the orange pre-heating symbol is on during the pre-heating phase, then goes out (see Chapter Pre-heating, Pre/post-heating control, page 13C-4).

When a minor injection fault occurs (severity 1), the written message "Check injection" is displayed, followed by the "Service" warning light. This means reduced operation and limited safety.

The user must have the repairs carried out as soon as possible.

The faults are related to:

  • the anti-theft system,
  • a coding error in the IMA (individual injector correction),
  • an injector,
  • the injector controls,
  • the fuel supply (injector leak, etc.),
  • a fault on the engine speed sensor target wheel,
  • the injection lock relay,
  • the exhaust gas recirculation solenoid valve or position sensor,
  • the accelerator pedal potentiometer (tracks 1 and 2),
  • the accelerator pedal potentiometer power supply,
  • the boost pressure sensor (in case of overpressure),
  • water in the diesel or a fault in the water detection sensor (if the vehicle is fitted with one).

When a serious injection fault occurs (severity 2), the red engine symbol and the message "Stop" (display with matrix only) appear, with the written message "Injection fault", followed by the "Stop" warning light and an audible alarm.

The faults are related to:

  • with timed shutdown: the flow actuator (loop deviation and overpressure),
  • with immediate shutdown:
  • to the engine speed sensor,
  • to the diesel flow actuator,
  • to the rail pressure sensor,
  • to the power supply of all injectors,
  • to the sensor supply voltage,
  • to an internal ECU fault.

When the engine overheats, the engine temperature fault symbol appears with the message "Engine overheating" (matrix display only), followed by the "Stop" warning lamp and an audible warning. In this case, the vehicle must be stopped immediately.

Orange emissions warning lamp "On Board Diagnostic"

The orange warning lamp, symbolised by an engine, comes on when the ignition is switched on for about 5 seconds, then goes out. It is never visible with the engine running (non-functional).

B84 or C84, and F9Q

Vehicles equipped with the Bosch EDC16 high-pressure diesel system have fault symbols and written warning messages, depending on the severity of the detected faults, in order to inform the customer and guide diagnosis.

The injection ECU controls the warning lamps and the display of warning messages on the instrument panel. Fault warning lamps and error messages are visible:

  • during the pre-heating phase,
  • when an injection fault occurs,
  • when the engine overheats.

Warning information is sent to the instrument panel via the multiplexed network.

WARNING LAMP OPERATING PRINCIPLE

During the starting phase (press the "Start" button), the orange pre-heating symbol is on during the pre-heating phase, then goes out (see Chapter Pre-heating, Pre/post-heating control, page 13C-4).

When a minor injection fault occurs (severity 1), the written message "Check injection" is displayed, followed by the "Service" warning light. This means reduced operation and limited safety.

The faults are related to:

  • due to an internal ECU fault,
  • due to an immobiliser system fault,
  • due to an engine speed synchronisation fault,
  • due to an accelerator potentiometer fault,
  • due to an air flow meter fault,
  • due to a speed sensor fault (see anti-lock braking system),
  • due to an exhaust gas recirculation solenoid valve fault,
  • due to a boost pressure control solenoid valve fault,
  • due to a fault in the protection and switching unit main relay,
  • due to an injector fault,
  • due to an injector flow correction (IMA) fault,
  • due to a sensor supply fault.

When a serious injection fault occurs (severity 2), the red engine symbol and the message "Stop" (display with matrix only) appear, with the written message "Injection fault", followed by the "Stop" warning light and an audible alarm.

The faults are related to:

  • due to an internal ECU fault,
  • due to an injector fault,
  • due to a rail pressure sensor fault,
  • due to a rail pressure regulator fault.

When the engine overheats, the engine temperature fault symbol appears with the message "Engine overheating" (matrix display only), followed by the "Stop" warning lamp and an audible warning. In this case, the vehicle must be stopped immediately.
