Crankshaft Front Oil Seal
Replacement
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the timing belt and the crankshaft drive sprocket (refer to Subsection 3.1.1.6).

2. Determine the installed depth of the seal, then remove the seal from the oil pump housing by prying it out with a screwdriver or other tool. When removing the seal, do not damage the seal bore or the crankshaft journal surface (if the crankshaft is damaged, the new seal will leak).

3. To remove a used seal in a more reliable way, cut the sealing lip of the seal with a sharp knife at the indicated location.
4. Clean the seal bore in the oil pump housing and lightly lubricate the outer surface of the new seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease. Lubricate the seal lips with molybdenum disulfide grease.

5. Carefully press the new seal into place using a installer with a diameter slightly smaller than the seal diameter, and an internal guide installer, or a large socket.
6. Make sure the seal has entered the bore evenly to the same depth it was installed to before disassembly. If no installer is available, a length of large-diameter pipe can be used. After installation, make sure the seal spring is not displaced.
7. Install the crankshaft sprocket and timing belt (see subsection 3.1.1.6).
8. Start the engine and check the front seal for leaks.
