Flywheel (or torque converter drive plate)

~2min read

Removal

PROCEDURE

1. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands, then remove the transmission, referring to subsection 7.1.5 and subsection 7.2.8.
2. On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch assembly (see subsection 8.2.1).

3. Нанесите краской или накерните метки (указаны стрелками) взаимной ориентации

3. Make alignment marks (indicated by the arrows) between the flywheel and the crankshaft with paint or a punch, to ensure correct flywheel installation during assembly.

4. Отверните болты крепления маховика (ведущего диска гидротрансформатора) к

4. Unscrew the flywheel (torque converter drive plate) mounting bolts from the crankshaft. Wedge a screwdriver against the ring gear to hold the flywheel from turning.
5. Remove the flywheel (torque converter drive plate) from the crankshaft. The flywheel is quite heavy, so support it when removing the last bolt.

6. На некоторых автомобилях, оборудованных автоматической трансмиссией, по обеим

6. On some vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, spacer washers are installed on both sides of the drive plate. Note the position of the locating pin (indicated by the arrow). Store the washers together with the drive plate.

* Wear gloves to avoid cutting your hands on the sharp ring gear teeth.

Installation

PROCEDURE
1. Clean the flywheel and remove all grease residue. Check the surface for deep scoring, rivet grooves, burn marks and scratches. Minor damage can be removed by sanding with emery cloth. Check the ring gear teeth for damage. Place the flywheel on a flat surface and check the flatness with a feeler gauge.
2. Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the flywheel and crankshaft. If the rear crankshaft oil seal is found to be leaking, replace the seal before installing the flywheel (drive plate of the torque converter) (refer to subsection 3.1.1.15).
3. Install the flywheel (drive plate of the torque converter) on the crankshaft. Align the marks made during flywheel removal. Note that on some vehicles the flywheel has locating pins or locating bolt holes located outside the circle of the main mounting bolts. Before installing the bolts, apply thread locking compound to the threads.
4. Hold the flywheel with a screwdriver against the ring gear and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque. Tighten the bolts in diametrically opposite pairs. Perform the final tightening in three or four steps.
5. Carry out the remaining assembly operations in reverse order.
