Gasoline Engines - Removal and Overhaul

Valve Repair

~1min read

Due to the complexity of the work and the need for special tools and equipment, valve, seat and valve guide repair is best left to an experienced technician.
At home, the following work may be performed: removal and disassembly of the cylinder head(s), cleaning and inspection of its condition, reassembly, and delivery to a dealer service department or a specialized workshop for valve and seat repair.
The following work is performed at a service department or specialized workshop: removal of springs and valves, grinding or replacement of valves, seats and valve guides, inspection and replacement of springs, retainers, spring seats and keepers (as needed), replacement of valve stem seals, assembly of valve components, and checking of the free spring height. If the cylinder head flatness deviates beyond the specified limit, the cylinder head is resurfaced.
After inspection and repair of the valves and their components by experienced personnel, the cylinder head is fully restored. Before installing the cylinder head, clean it again to remove any residual abrasive material from head resurfacing or valve lapping. If possible, blow out all passages and holes of the cylinder head with compressed air.
