Installation

PROCEDURE

1. First install the crankshaft and tighten the main bearing cap bolts. Then press a new seal into the retainer and secure the retainer to the cylinder block with bolts.
2. Carefully inspect the crankshaft sealing journal for scratches and scoring that could damage the seal lip and cause leaks. If the crankshaft shows signs of damage, replace the crankshaft.

3. Старый сальник можно выпрессовать с обратной стороны ударами молотка по выколотке.

3. The old seal can be driven out from the rear side by tapping with a hammer on a drift. Before removing the seal, note its depth position in the retainer.
4. Press the new seal in evenly around its circumference. Do not damage the inner surface of the retainer during installation, otherwise a leak may develop over time at the damaged area.
5. Make sure the seal is clean and lightly lubricate the outer edge of the new seal. The seal must be pressed evenly into the bore, so do not tap the seal into place with a hammer. If no press is available, place the seal and retainer between two wooden blocks and clamp them in a large vise. The blocks must be thick enough to distribute the force evenly around the seal circumference. Press the seal slowly and do not allow the seal to cock in the retainer.

6. Наконец, сальник можно запрессовать в держатель ударами молотка через массивный

6. Alternatively, the seal can be driven into the retainer with a hammer through a heavy wooden block whose thickness distributes the force evenly around the seal circumference. Do not allow the seal to cock in the retainer during installation.
7. Before installing the seal and retainer assembly on the engine, lubricate the seal lip with engine oil or molybdenum disulfide grease. Install a new retainer gasket.
8. Gradually tighten the retainer mounting bolts to the torque specified in the section (see subsection 3.1.1.1).
