Oil Temperature
Oil temperature is very important for reliable engine operation. However, this information is available to the Audi driver only through optional additional gauges. For comparison, the engine oil temperature at the oil filter flange or in the oil pump is of interest; the oil is coldest there. On the piston rings, on the other hand, temperatures of up to 300°C can prevail.
If your vehicle is equipped with an oil temperature gauge: Audi specifies 145°C in the oil pan as the maximum permissible temperature. This applies when a high-quality engine oil meeting the specified requirements is used.
However, oil temperature that is too low is also harmful to the engine. In this case the oil has not yet reached its full lubricating capacity. Therefore, after a cold start, do not run the engine above 3500 rpm if possible until the oil temperature has risen to approximately 60°C. Engine oil takes roughly twice as long as the coolant to reach its operating temperature.
