Cylinder Head and Camshaft

~1min read
In a sense, the cylinder head forms the upper boundary of the combustion chambers.
At the very top of the cylinder head is the camshaft. Its (eccentric) cams open and close the valves at specific piston positions. This determines the valve timing. The camshaft is driven by the crankshaft via the toothed belt.
However, the valves are not actuated directly by the camshaft. The intermediate components are so-called bucket tappets. Each bucket tappet is fitted over the valve stem.
