Toothed Belt

Toothed Belt Routing, 6-Cylinder Engine
1 – coolant pump pulley;
2 – tensioner roller;
3 – crankshaft timing belt sprocket;
4 – idler roller.
The toothed belt, driven by the crankshaft, is an almost silent component of the camshaft drive.
The toothed belts of 4- and 5-cylinder engines are equipped with so-called thermally sensitive tensioner rollers.

Toothed Belt Drive, 4-Cylinder Engine
1 – tensioner roller;
2 – thermal element;
3 – toothed belt.

Toothed Belt Drive, 5-Cylinder Engine
1 – toothed belt;
2 – tensioner roller;
3 – thermal element.
The rubber toothed belt, reinforced with steel wire, operates without wear, and the rubber compound of the toothed belt provides dry lubrication of the pulleys. Along with the camshaft, the toothed belt also drives the coolant pump on 5- and 6-cylinder engine models. On 4-cylinder models, the belt additionally drives the intermediate shaft, which in turn drives the oil pump and distributor.
