Removing the timing belt cover
PROCEDURE
4-cylinder engine: release the two retaining clips at the top of the cover.
Remove the upper part of the cover.
When installing, make sure the lower edge of the cover is correctly inserted into the upper part, otherwise the cover will not hold.
Normally it is sufficient to remove the upper part of the cover. If the lower part must also be removed:
Remove the V-belt (see Alternator section)
Remove the V-belt pulleys from the crankshaft and the water pump.
Loosen and remove the bolts and nuts of the lower timing belt cover.
When installing, tighten the V-belt pulley bolts to 20 N·m, and the timing belt cover nuts and bolts to 10 N·m.
5-cylinder engine: release the two retaining clips at the top of the cover.
Remove the upper part of the timing belt cover.
Unscrew and remove the bolts of the lower cover.
When installing, tighten all bolts to 10 N·m.
6-cylinder engine: remove the poly-V belt and the poly-V belt tensioner roller (see Alternator section).
On each half of the cover, remove one clamp at the top and one at the bottom.
Carefully remove the cover from the remaining mountings.
