Exhaust Manifold Removal and Installation

REMOVAL
PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

If the vehicle is equipped with a stereo system with an anti-theft code, make sure you have the correct code to reactivate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!

2. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. If the pipe fasteners are seized, apply penetrating oil to them beforehand.

3. Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold. It is also recommended to apply penetrating oil to the fasteners beforehand.

4. Unscrew the manifold nuts and separate the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.

Do not forget to remove the bolts of the lower mounting bracket located near the manifold mounting flange.

INSTALLATION
PROCEDURE

1. Discard the old gasket, then scrape off its remains from the mating surfaces of the exhaust manifold and cylinder head. Wipe the surfaces with a cloth dampened with acetone.
2. Install a new gasket, position the manifold in its original location and secure it with the nuts. Working from the center outward in a diagonal pattern, tighten the fasteners to the required torque (see Specifications).
3. Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
4. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks at the joints between the exhaust manifold and cylinder head and at the exhaust pipe connection.
