Front Crankshaft Oil Seal Replacement
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the drive belts (see Maintenance and Adjustment chapter).
2. Remove the timing belt and balance shaft drive belt (see Cylinder Head Assembly: Removal, Inspection and Installation and Camshafts: Removal, Inspection and Installation).
3. Remove the crankshaft pulley (see Cylinder Head Assembly: Removal, Inspection and Installation).
4. Disconnect the wiring from the crankshaft position/TDC sensor (CKP/TDC sensor) (main wiring harness connector). Remove the mounting bolts and remove the sensor assembly from the oil pump housing.

5. Remove the crankshaft gear and the concave washer installed under it.
6. Carefully pry out the old seal from its bore in the oil pump housing using a special tool or a large screwdriver. Take care not to scratch or gouge the shaft journal surface or the pump housing; such defects will cause the new seal to fail quickly.
7. Clean the inner surfaces of the seal bore. Lubricate the outer edge of the new seal with clean engine oil or universal grease. Using a socket of the appropriate size or a length of pipe of suitable diameter as a installation tool, press the new seal into its bore (the tool must bear only on the hard outer edge of the seal face). After installing the seal, make sure the garter spring has not come out of its groove.
8. Install the concave washer onto the crankshaft journal, then install the gear.
9. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.
10. Start the engine and check for signs of oil leaks.
