Oil Pump Inspection
INSPECTION
PROCEDURE

1. Measure the operating clearances of the pump gears. Compare the measurements with the Specifications. If the clearances are outside the permissible limits, replace the pump.

2. Unscrew the relief valve plug and remove the valve spring and plunger from the bore in the pump body. Inspect the spring for deformation and the plunger for scratches and scoring. Replace any defective components.
3. Install the gears in the pump body and pack the cavities between their teeth with petroleum jelly (as initial priming for the first start-up).
4. Coat the pump cover mounting bolts with anti-seize compound. Install the cover, screw in the bolts and tighten them to the specified torque. Install the relief valve spring and plunger in the pump body. Replace the sealing washer, screw in the plug and tighten it securely.
