Disc Brake Pad Replacement

~1min read

Brake pads must be replaced on both front/rear brake assemblies at the same time. Remember that the dust generated during brake operation may contain asbestos, which is extremely harmful to human health. Never blow dust away with compressed air and never inhale it - wear a protective mask or respirator when servicing the brake assemblies. Never use gasoline or petroleum-based solvents to clean brake system components - use only specialized cleaning agents or methyl alcohol!
This procedure applies equally to disc brake assemblies on both the front and rear wheels.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir.
2. Loosen the wheel nuts on the respective wheels. Raise the front/rear of the vehicle and support it on safety stands.
3. Remove the front/rear wheels.

All four brake pads on both wheels of one axle must be replaced at the same time. To avoid confusion, work on each brake assembly individually.
4. Carefully inspect the brake disc (refer to Brake Disc Inspection, Removal and Installation). If the disc needs to be resurfaced, remove the disc.
