Brake Light Switch Replacement and Adjustment
REPLACEMENT
PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the brake light switch.
2. Loosen the lock nut on the pedal-side of the brake light switch, then unscrew the switch from its mounting bracket.
3. Install in the reverse order.
ADJUSTMENT
PROCEDURE
1. Loosen the brake light switch lock nut and screw the switch in far enough that its plunger contacts the brake pedal.
2. Loosen the pushrod lock nut and, turning the pushrod with pliers, adjust the pedal height correctly (refer to Specifications).
Measure from the pedal pad to the floor panel (not to the carpet!).
3. Retighten the lock nut securely.
4. Screw the brake light switch into the bracket until its plunger is fully depressed (threaded tip contacts the pedal arm pad), then back it out 1/2 turn and securely tighten the lock nut.
5. Depress the brake pedal by hand and measure its free play. Compare the result with the Specifications. Verify that the brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed.
