Transmission Repair

~1min read

The transmission is a very complex assembly, and its repair must be performed at a specialized workshop. Also, when removing and installing many parts, it is necessary to measure clearances and adjust them if necessary, which requires the use of appropriate selective shims and washers. In addition to the fact that transmission parts are not sold over the counter and must be ordered, they are also extremely expensive. If the transmission is faulty or operating with excessive noise, it is advisable to entrust repair to a specialist or replace the transmission, which may cost significantly less. However, some transmission malfunctions can be corrected without removing the transmission from the vehicle.

However, despite all the difficulties, an experienced technician can repair the transmission at home. In this case, special tools are required, and work must be performed sequentially, step by step, marking completed operations. When repairing the transmission, use special snap ring pliers, bearing pullers, a slide hammer, a set of punches, a micrometer, and a hydraulic press.

Before removing the transmission, determine the fault as accurately as possible, which will greatly simplify the repair.
