ESC Operation

~1min read

ESC ON condition

When in the ON position, the ESC and ESC OFF indicators illuminate for about 3 seconds and then go off, after which ESC is activated.

If the light stays on, there may be a problem with ESC. It is recommended that the vehicle be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

During operation

When ESC is operating, the ESC indicator flashes:

- When braking in conditions that may lock the wheels, you may hear a ticking noise from the brakes, or feel a corresponding sensation through the brake pedal. This is normal and indicates that ESC is active.

- When ESC is activated, the engine may not respond to the accelerator as it switches to normal operating conditions.

- When leaving mud or slippery road surfaces, pressing the accelerator may cause engine speed (rpm) to increase. This maintains vehicle stability and traction and does not indicate a problem.

ESC OFF Condition

To turn off ESC, press the ESC OFF button (the ESC OFF indicator light comes on).

If the ignition switch is in the LOCK/OFF position when ESC is off, ESC remains off.

When the engine is restarted, ESC turns back on automatically.
