Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure

~1min read

All tire pressures (including the spare) should be checked when the tires are cold. "Cold tires" means the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours or less than 1 mile (1.6 km) of driving.

Heated tires typically exceed the recommended cold tire pressure by 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa). Do not release air from warm tires to adjust pressure, or the tires will be underinflated. For recommended tire pressures, refer to "Tires and Wheels" in Chapter 2.

WARNING

The recommended pressure must be maintained for better ride, vehicle handling, and minimum tire wear. Overinflation or underinflation can shorten tire life, adversely affect vehicle handling, and cause sudden tire failure, which may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident.

Severe underinflation can cause excessive heat buildup, leading to blowouts, tread separation, and other tire failures that may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident. This risk is much higher on hot days and when driving at high speeds for extended periods.

PLEDGE

  • Underinflation results in excessive wear, poor handling, and reduced fuel economy. Wheel damage is also possible. Keep tire pressure at the correct level. If a tire frequently needs air, have it checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Overinflation causes a harsh ride, excessive wear in the center of the tire tread, and greater risk of road hazard damage.
