Head airbag*

~2min read

Airbag systems are complex and require special care when handling. The Kia Opirus explicitly states that all maintenance work may only be carried out by qualified personnel; tampering can be life-threatening. The chapter on airbag warning lamps and system diagnosis also emphasizes that safety begins with understanding how the system works and depends on consistent maintenance. Only then is full protection maintained over the long term.

The head airbags are located in the roof edges on the left and right, above the front and rear vehicle doors.

The head airbags are designed to protect the front seat occupants and the rear occupants in the outboard seats from head injuries in certain side collisions.

  • The head airbag deploys only on the side of the vehicle that is struck.
  • Side airbags and head airbags are not intended to deploy in frontal or rear collisions or in most vehicle rollovers.
  • The head airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side collisions, depending on the impact severity, impact angle and speed. The head airbags do not deploy in every side impact.
WARNING
  • For the side and head airbags to provide maximum protection, occupants in the front seats and in the rear outboard seats must be properly belted in an upright seating position. It is especially important that children are secured in suitable restraint systems.
  • Children in the rear outboard seats must be secured with suitable child restraint systems. Make sure that the child restraint system is installed and secured as far away from the door as possible.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the doors, rest their arms on the doors, hold their arms out of the window, or place objects between themselves and the doors when riding in seats equipped with side airbags.
  • Never attempt to open or repair any component of the head or side airbag system. Have work on these components carried out only by an authorized Kia dealer.

Failure to follow the above instructions may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants in the event of an accident.

The head airbags of the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 provide optimal protection for the head and neck area in side collisions. They are designed to deploy only on the side of impact, providing targeted protection.

Correct seating position and proper use of the seat belts are particularly important so that the airbags can deliver their full protective effect. This keeps the Kia Opirus a reliable companion when it comes to safety.
