Brake booster

~3min read

The vehicle is equipped with brake boosters that adjust automatically for wear.

If the brake booster assistance is lost, due to the engine being off or for other reasons, you can still stop the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal harder. Braking distance will be longer in this case.

When the engine is off, the residual booster assistance is partly reduced with each press of the brake pedal. Do not pump the brake pedal when there is no booster assistance.

Press the brake pedal only when necessary to maintain control of the vehicle on slippery surfaces.

WARNING - Brakes Do not drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal.

This will cause the brakes to overheat, excessive wear of the friction materials and pads, and an increase in stopping distance.

  • When driving down a long or steep hill, engage a lower gear and avoid braking continuously. Prolonged use of the brakes will cause them to overheat, temporarily reducing braking efficiency.
  • Wet brakes may reduce braking action and cause the vehicle to pull to one side when braking.
  • Apply the brakes lightly to check whether this kind of problem exists. After driving through deep water, always check the brakes in this way. To dry the brakes, lightly press the pedal while driving at low speed until normal performance is restored.
  • Always check the position of the brake and accelerator pedals before driving. Otherwise, you could press the accelerator pedal instead of the brake, risking a serious accident.
  • In case of brake failure If the service brakes do not work while the vehicle is moving, you can perform an emergency stop using the parking brake. Braking distance will be significantly longer than normal in this case.

WARNING - Parking brake Applying the parking brake while driving at normal speeds may cause the vehicle to skid sharply. Use great care when the parking brake must be used to stop the vehicle.

Disc brake wear indicator Your vehicle has disc brakes.

When the brake pads are worn to the point of needing replacement, the front or rear brakes (if equipped) produce an abnormal squeal. This noise may be intermittent or may occur when the brake pedal is pressed.

Note that certain driving or weather conditions may cause squealing when the brake pedal is first pressed (or lightly pressed). This is normal and does not indicate a brake problem.

    WARNING

    • To avoid costly brake repairs, do not continue to drive the vehicle with worn pads.
    • Always replace the brake pads on the front or rear axle as a set.
WARNING - Brake wear When you hear this squealing noise from the brakes, it means the vehicle needs maintenance. Ignoring this audible warning compromises braking effectiveness, with a serious risk of an accident.

Rear drum brakes (if equipped) Rear drum brakes do not have wear indicators. Therefore, have the rear brake friction material checked if the brakes squeal. Also have the rear brakes checked when changing or rotating the tyres and when replacing the front brakes.
