Description and Operation
Description
The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) is a Hall effect sensor and detects the camshaft position using a Hall element.
It works together with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) and identifies the piston position of each cylinder, which the CKPS system cannot detect alone.
The CMPS is installed on the cylinder head cover and uses a target wheel installed on the camshaft. This sensor has a Hall-effect IC, whose output voltage changes when a magnetic field is applied to the IC while current flows through it.
