Description and Operation

Description

Based on information from various sensors, the ECM calculates the amount of fuel to be injected. The fuel injector is a solenoid valve, and the fuel injection quantity is controlled by the injection duration. The ECM controls each injector by grounding its control circuit. When the ECM energizes the injector by grounding the control circuit, the circuit voltage should be low (theoretically 0 V) and fuel is injected. When the ECM de-energizes the injector by opening the control circuit, the fuel injector closes and the circuit voltage should briefly peak.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the injector connector.

  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the injector.

  4. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

    Specification: approximately 9.6

Removal

  1. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line.

    (Refer to "Fuel Line Residual Pressure Release" in this group).

  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  3. Remove the engine cover.

    (See Engine and Transaxle Assembly - Engine Cover)

  4. Remove the wiring harness after loosening the mounting bolts.

  5. Disconnect the injector connector (A).

  6. Remove the PCV hose (A).

  7. Disconnect the fuel feed tube (A) after loosening the mounting nuts (B).

    Delivery pipe mounting nut (↔ fuel feed tube):

    18,6–24 N·m

  8. Remove the delivery pipe and injector assembly (A) after loosening the mounting bolts (B).

    Delivery pipe mounting bolt: 7.8–11.8 N·m

  9. Remove the retaining clip (A) and separate the injector from the delivery pipe.

Installation

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
