Description and Operation
Description
The Variable Intake Solenoid (VIS) valve is installed on the intake manifold. The VIS valve controls the vacuum modulator, which actuates the valve in the intake manifold. The ECM opens or closes this valve depending on engine conditions (refer to the table below).

| Engine Status | VIS Valve | Operation |
| Average Speed | Closed | Improves engine performance at low engine speeds by reducing intake interference between cylinders. |
| Low/High Speed | Open | Minimizes intake resistance by shortening the intake manifold length and increasing the air inlet area. |

Repair Procedures
Inspection
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the VIS valve connector.
Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the VIS valve.
Specification: Refer to "Specifications"
Removal
Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")
Remove the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) module.
(Refer to Engine Control System - ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) System)
Disconnect the variable intake solenoid connector (A).

Remove the variable intake solenoid (A).
Disconnect the vacuum hoses (B) from the valve.

Remove the variable intake solenoid.
Installation
Installation is the reverse of removal.
