Description and Operation
Description
The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system consists of a throttle body with a built-in control motor and a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Instead of a conventional throttle cable, the Accelerator Position Sensor (APS) is used to receive driver input. The ECM uses the APS signal to calculate the target throttle angle; the throttle position is then regulated by the ECM through ETC motor control. The TPS signal is used to send throttle position information to the ECM. Using ETC, precise throttle position control is possible; the need for external cruise control modules/cables is eliminated.

ETC Motor
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the ETC module connector.
Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the ETC module.
Make sure the resistance is within specification.
Specification: 0.3–100 Ω [20 °C]
Removal
Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(See Intake and Exhaust System - Air Cleaner)
Disconnect the ETC module connector (A).
Disconnect the evaporative hose (B).
Remove the mounting bolts, then remove the ETC module (C) from the engine.
ETC Throttle Body Mounting Bolt:
7,8–9.8 N·m

Installation
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Adjustment
ETC Module Learning Procedure
When replacing or reinstalling, be sure to perform the ETC module learning procedure.
Wait 1 minute with the ignition switched ON.
Start the engine and let it idle for 15 minutes.
Wait for 1 minute with the ignition switched off.
Restart the engine and check that the idle speed is stable.
