Description and Operation
Description
The heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) consists of zirconia and alumina and is installed at the inlet and outlet of the warm-up catalytic converter (WCC).
After comparing the oxygen content of the atmosphere with that of the exhaust gas, it sends a corresponding voltage signal to the ECM. When the A/F ratio is rich or lean, it generates approximately +1 V or 0 V, respectively.
For this sensor to operate properly, the sensor tip temperature must be above a specified temperature. Therefore, it has a heater that is controlled by the ECM duty signal. When the exhaust gas temperature is below the specified value, the heater heats the sensor tip.

Repair Procedures
Inspection
Check the HO2S sensor signal waveform using KDS/GDS.
Specification: Refer to "Waveform"
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the HO2S connector.
Measure the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the HO2S sensor heater.
Make sure the resistance is within specification.
Specification: approximately 9.0 Ω [20 °C]

Removal
Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Disconnect the connector (A) and remove the sensor (B).
Installation of the heated oxygen sensor:
39,2–49 N·m
[Bank 1/Sensor 1]

[Bank 1/Sensor 2]

Installation
Installation is the reverse of removal.
