Driving in Rain

Rain and wet road surfaces can make driving hazardous, especially if the driver is not prepared for slippery conditions. The following recommendations should be kept in mind when driving in the rain:

  • Heavy rain reduces visibility and increases braking distance. Reduce your speed.
  • Keep the windshield wipers in good working condition. If the wipers leave streaks on the windshield or miss areas of the glass, replace the wiper blades.
  • If the tires are in poor condition, performing an emergency stop on a wet road may cause a skid and possibly an accident. Make sure the tires are in good condition and have the correct tread depth.
  • Switch on the headlights to be more visible to other drivers.
  • Driving through large puddles at excessive speed may affect the brakes. If you need to drive through puddles, drive through them slowly.
  • If the brakes may have become wet, lightly press the brake pedal while driving until normal braking performance is restored.
