Rocking the Vehicle
If it is necessary to rock the vehicle to free it from snow, sand or mud, first turn the steering wheel from side to side to clear the area around the front wheels. Then shift the gear selector back and forth between 1st and R (Reverse) in vehicles with a manual transmission, or between R (Reverse) and any forward drive gear in vehicles with an automatic transmission. Do not increase engine speed, and keep wheel spin to the smallest possible amount.
If the vehicle still cannot get out after several attempts, have it towed out to avoid overheating the engine and possible transmission damage.
CAUTION Rocking the vehicle for too long may cause engine overheating, transmission damage or failure, and tire damage. WARNING - Spinning Wheels Do not allow the wheels to spin in place, especially at speeds above 56 km/h. Spinning wheels at high speed while the vehicle is stationary may overheat the tires, cause them to burst, and injure bystanders.NOTE Before rocking the vehicle, turn off the ESP system (if equipped).
WARNING If the vehicle becomes stuck in snow, mud, sand, etc., you may try to rock the vehicle by moving it forward and backward. Do not perform this procedure if people or objects are near the vehicle. While rocking the vehicle, it may suddenly move forward or backward when the wheels break free from the soft surface, which may cause injury or damage to nearby people or objects.Test yourself
