Freewheeling the vehicle

In certain situations, the vehicle must be put into freewheel mode (e.g. towing, on a rolling road, automatic car wash (Wash mode), rail or sea transport).

The procedure differs depending on the gearbox type and the parking brake type.

Never leave the vehicle unattended while it is in freewheel mode.

With manual gearbox and electric parking brake

To release them

► Engine running, foot on the brake, move the gear lever to neutral.

► Foot on the brake, switch off the engine.

► Release the brake pedal, then switch the ignition back on.

► Foot on the brake, press the control to release the parking brake.

► Release the brake pedal, switch off the ignition.

To return to normal operation

► Foot on the brake, restart the engine and apply the handbrake.

Hands-Free Access and Starting

It is essential not to press the brake pedal when switching the ignition back on and then off. Otherwise, the engine will start and the procedure must be repeated.

With automatic gearbox and electric parking brake

To release them

► Vehicle stationary, engine running, foot on the brake, select mode N.

Within 5 seconds:

► Press and hold the brake pedal down, then, in this order: switch off the engine and move the pulse selector forward or backward.

► Release the brake pedal, then switch the ignition back on.

► Foot on the brake, press the electric parking brake control to release it.

► Release the brake pedal, switch off the ignition.

A message appears on the instrument cluster confirming that the wheels are released for 15 minutes.

While the vehicle is in freewheel mode, the radio update is not possible (message shown on the instrument cluster).

After 15 minutes or to return to normal operation

► Foot on the brake, restart the engine and select mode P.
