Checks
Unless otherwise specified, check these items in accordance with the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, depending on the engine.
Otherwise, have them checked by the CITROËN network or a qualified workshop.
Use only products recommended by CITROËN or products of equivalent quality and specifications.
To ensure optimal operation of critical components such as the braking system, CITROËN selects and recommends specific products.
12 V battery
The battery is maintenance-free.
Regularly check that the bolted terminal clamps are tight (on versions without quick-release clamps) and that the connections are clean.
For more information on precautions to take before any work on the 12 V battery, refer to the corresponding section.
Vehicles equipped with Stop & Start have a 12 V lead-acid battery with specific technology and specifications.
It must be replaced only by the CITROËN network or a qualified workshop.
Cabin filter
Depending on the environment and how the vehicle is used (for example: dusty conditions, city driving), replace it twice as often if necessary.
A clogged cabin filter can reduce the performance of the air conditioning system and cause unpleasant odours.
Air filter
Depending on the environment and how the vehicle is used (for example: dusty conditions, city driving), replace it twice as often if necessary.
Oil filter
Replace the oil filter at every engine oil change.
Particulate filter (diesel)
/
The onset of particulate filter clogging is indicated by this warning light coming on temporarily, together with a warning message.
As soon as traffic conditions allow, regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at least 60 km/h, with engine speed above 2500 rpm, for about 15 minutes (until the warning light goes out).
If it is not possible to reach 60 km/h, let the engine idle for about 15 minutes, then drive with engine speed above 2500 rpm for 15 minutes.
Do not switch off the engine before the filter regeneration is complete; repeated interruptions may prematurely degrade the engine oil.
Regenerating the filter while the vehicle is stationary is not recommended.
If the warning light stays on, this indicates a lack of diesel additive.
For more information on checking levels, refer to the corresponding section.
After prolonged operation at very low speed or at idle, water vapour may occasionally be visible in the exhaust during acceleration.
This emission has no effect on vehicle behaviour or on the environment.
New vehicle
The first particulate filter regeneration cycles may produce a "burnt" smell, which is perfectly normal.
Manual gearbox
The gearbox is maintenance-free (no oil change).
Automatic transmission
The gearbox is maintenance-free (no oil change).
Brake pads
Brake wear depends on driving style, particularly for vehicles used in town on short journeys. The brakes may need to be checked between scheduled services.
Apart from a leak in the circuit, a drop in brake fluid level indicates brake pad wear.
After washing the vehicle, moisture or, in winter conditions, frost may form on the brake discs and pads, which can reduce braking efficiency. Apply the brakes gently to dry and defrost them.
Brake disc wear condition
For information on checking brake disc wear, consult the CITROËN network or a qualified workshop.
Electric parking brake
This system requires no particular checks. However, if a problem occurs, do not hesitate to have it checked by the CITROËN network or a qualified workshop.
For more information on the electric parking brake, refer to the corresponding section.
Wheels and tyres
Check the inflation pressure of all tyres, including the spare wheel, "cold".
The pressures shown on the tyre pressure label apply to "cold" tyres. If the vehicle has been driven for more than 10 minutes or more than 10 kilometres at over 50 km/h, add 0.3 bar (30 kPa) to the values shown on the label.
Under-inflation increases energy consumption. Incorrect inflation pressure causes premature tyre wear and degrades the vehicle's road holding - Risk of accident!
Driving on worn or damaged tyres reduces braking and steering performance. Regularly check the condition of the tyres (tread and sidewalls) and wheels, and make sure the valve caps are fitted.
When the tread wear indicators are no longer below the level of the tread, the groove depth is less than 1.6 mm; the tyres must be replaced immediately.
Using wheels and tyres of sizes other than those specified can affect tyre life, wheel rotation, ground clearance and speedometer reading, and degrade road holding.
Fitting different tyres on the front and rear axles may cause unwanted ESC interventions.
Always mark the rotation direction on tyres that will be stored when fitting winter or summer tyres. Store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Winter or all-season tyres can be identified by this symbol on their sidewalls.
Shock absorbers
Worn shock absorbers are difficult for the driver to detect. However, they strongly affect braking efficiency and road holding.
Regular inspection by the CITROËN network or a qualified workshop is necessary to ensure safety and driving comfort.
Timing and accessory drive kits
Timing and accessory drive kits operate from the moment the engine starts until it stops completely; normal wear is expected.
A faulty timing or accessory drive kit can damage the engine and render it unusable. Observe the replacement interval given in kilometres or time, whichever is reached first.
