Steering lock - ignition - starter
The steering lock in the Citroën C6 combines security with simple operation. The key positions S, M and D control the steering lock, ignition and engine start. The information is supplemented by warnings about key overload, ECO mode during prolonged standstill, and notes on power steering assistance. Particularly important: the key must never be removed while the engine is running or while the vehicle is moving. This section explains safety-relevant procedures in an easy-to-understand way.

S: STEERING LOCK
To release the steering, move the steering wheel slightly back and forth while carefully turning the key.
To remove the key, turn the steering wheel until the steering is locked. The key can only be removed in position S.
M: IGNITION ON
The steering is released (by turning the key to position M; if necessary, move the steering wheel slightly back and forth).
Depending on vehicle version, the following warning lights are checked:

If any of these warning lights does not come on, this indicates a malfunction.
D: START
Release the key as soon as the engine runs. Never operate the key while the engine is running.
STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE
See "Starting".
ECO MODE
To prevent the battery from discharging when the engine is stopped, the vehicle automatically switches to ECO mode after a maximum of 30 minutes. ECO mode is indicated by a message on the display.
The comfort electrics and the headlights (except parking lights and hazard warning lights) are switched off automatically.
To restore them, the engine must be started again.
NEVER REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOPPED.
TO ENSURE BRAKE BOOSTER AND POWER STEERING FUNCTION, ONLY DRIVE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING (otherwise the steering may lock and the safety systems may not function).
Do not attach heavy objects to the key while it is in the ignition lock, as they load the key axis. This could cause a malfunction.
When the vehicle is stopped and the key has been removed, turn the steering wheel slightly to lock the steering.
The steering column ignition lock of the Citroën C6 is designed to combine a high level of security with simple operation. Whether unlocking the steering, switching on the ignition or starting the engine, everything works intuitively and reliably. The driver is always well supported, whether starting or parking the vehicle.
The integrated ECO mode also helps to protect the battery and reduce power consumption when the vehicle is stationary. With these features, the Citroën C6 once again demonstrates its technical maturity and high standards of comfort and efficiency.
These well-thought-out solutions make the Citroën C6 a reliable companion, ideal for drivers who value safety, comfort and modern technology in one vehicle.
