Keys

~3min read

The transponder key of the Citroën C6 is used not only for unlocking and starting, but is also part of the electronic immobiliser. This chapter explains how central locking works with the key, including superlocking, warning systems and security precautions for lost keys. Information on what to do in the event of battery failure or an unrecognised code shows how important it is to handle the key correctly – a key topic for security and comfort.

Transponder key

Schlüssel

The key is used to lock and unlock all locks on the vehicle and to start the engine.

Note: For safety reasons, if the ignition key has not been removed, a warning tone sounds when the driver's door is opened with the ignition switched off.

The key is used to deactivate the front passenger airbag.

See "Airbags".

Central locking using the key

A brief press of the key locks the vehicle.

Superlocking: central locking using the key

A second press of the key immediately afterwards activates superlocking. The doors can then not be opened from either inside or outside.

Note:

  • When the vehicle is stationary and the engine is off, locking is indicated by the indicator light on the interior locking control flashing.
  • If a door or the boot is open or not properly closed, central locking will not operate.

Electronic immobiliser

The ELECTRONIC IMMOBILISER locks the engine's fuel supply system.

The system is activated automatically when the ignition key is removed from the ignition lock.

All keys contain a device for the electronic immobiliser.

When the ignition is switched on, a communication exchange is established between the key and the electronic immobiliser.

If the key is not recognised, the engine cannot be started.

In this case, leave the vehicle immobilised and contact an authorised CITROËN dealer.

If people are still inside the vehicle, activating superlocking can be dangerous, as the vehicle cannot be unlocked from inside without the remote control.

The key number is located on the key tag.

If keys or remote controls are lost, replacements can only be ordered through the CITROËN network.

If the vehicle is unlocked with the key due to a battery fault, opening or closing a door with the window closed may seriously damage the window or even break it. See "Opening".

The key of the Citroën C6 is far more than a classic tool for starting and locking the vehicle. With its integrated electronic immobiliser and the option of superlocking, it actively contributes to the security and protection of the vehicle. These modern features underline the high standards of security and technology.

The built-in transponder ensures that only authorised keys can start the engine. This effectively protects against theft attempts and gives the driver added security. The Citroën C6 also shows its strength here in the field of smart vehicle technology.
